Visitors

The department is located on the Athens campus of the University of Georgia. The address, contact phone numbers, and links to Google Maps and a Campus map are at the bottom of this page.

Directions to the Department

The nearest large airport is the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport located on the south side of Atlanta. The two main choices for getting from the airport to Athens are to use a scheduled shuttle bus service or to rent a car at the airport.

Scheduled Shuttle Services

There is a frequent scheduled shuttle from Atlanta to Athens run by Groome Transportation (706-410-2363). You can make reservations online or by phone. The shuttle will make stops at the major hotels in downtown Athens and at the Georgia Center which is close to the Department of Marine Sciences and is surrounded by Sanford Drive, Carlton Street, and South Lumpkin Street (note that the shuttle drops you at the South Lumpkin Street entrance of the Georgia Center — see Google Maps).

Renting a car

Typically, it takes about 1½  hours to drive from the airport to Athens, but this can vary according to time of day and traffic conditions around Atlanta. You can use Google Maps for directions. Once on campus, the most convenient place to park is the South Parking Deck which is next to the Georgia Center and directly across Sanford Drive from the department; there are entrances to the parking deck on Sanford Drive and South Lumpkin Street.
