Adrian Burd, together with colleagues from the University of California Santa Barbara and the University of Alaska, has been funded by NASA as part of the new EXPORTS program. This large, interdisciplinary program is designed to better understand the relationships between biological uptake of carbon in the surface waters and the storage of that carbon at depth. The hope is that these relationships will enable us to use satellite remote sensing data to better monitor the storage of organic carbon in the oceans.
