Geological oceanography is the study of sediments and rocks within the marine environment. Faculty in UGA Marine Sciences study paleoceanography and examine processes affecting the sediments and stratigraphy of coastal environments and the continental margin and how these processes affect communities of marine organisms. We study both contemporary and ancient environments using field studies and computer models to understand how these systems have responded to change, and predict how similar systems today will change in the future.
