Dr. Samantha Joye is participating in the internationally acclaimed "BLUE Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit", underway in St. Petersburg Florida.  She is joining global leaders in ocean conservation, such as scientist Dr.

On October 15, 2014, Marine Sciences Department postdocs Alexey Vorobev (Moran lab) and Oliver Ding He (Medeiros lab) traveled to the UGA Marine Institute on Sapelo Island to collect samples for an NSF project investigating microbial transformations of organic matter.

The Environmental Sample Processor (ESP) is an autonomous biological sensor that extracts microbial DNA and measures gene abundances at sea. A month-long deployment of the ESP is underway to investigate the bacterial genes that drive volatile sulfur release from the ocean surface.

Charles Schutte successfully defended his PhD dissertation titled “NITROGEN CYCLING AND TRACE GAS DYNAMICS IN SHALLOW COASTAL AQUIFERS” on September 19th.
