The Environmental Sample Processor (ESP) is an autonomous biological sensor that extracts microbial DNA and measures gene abundances at sea. A month-long deployment of the ESP is underway to investigate the bacterial genes that drive volatile sulfur release from the ocean surface.
Charles Schutte successfully defended his PhD dissertation titled “NITROGEN CYCLING AND TRACE GAS DYNAMICS IN SHALLOW COASTAL AQUIFERS” on September 19th.
